Have you ever wondered what gives someone the boldness to witness about their faith, even when facing opposition? Scripture shows examples of ordinary people empowered by the Holy Spirit to do extraordinary things. From Peter boldly preaching at Pentecost to Stephen standing firm before the Sanhedrin, their courage didn’t come from their strength but from the Holy Spirit.
The same Spirit empowers believers today. When we walk in the Spirit, we don’t just survive the challenges—we thrive as witnesses of God’s love, truth, and power.
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 (ESV)
Walking in the Spirit equips us with boldness, wisdom, and power to share the gospel and impact our communities.
Reflection
In Acts 1:8, Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit wasn’t just for the apostles—it’s for every believer. This promise assures us that boldness doesn’t come from human confidence but from the indwelling presence of God Himself.
Consider the transformation of Peter. Before Pentecost, Peter was afraid—he denied knowing Jesus three times. Yet after receiving the Holy Spirit, he stood before thousands and declared Jesus as Lord. His fear was replaced by unshakable courage.
When you invite the Holy Spirit to lead you, He empowers you to be an effective witness. You may not preach to crowds, but your everyday actions and words can be a testimony. When you walk into a room filled with His presence, others notice something different—a peace, a joy, a love that draws people in.
In Forgotten God by Francis Chan, the author reminds readers that “the Spirit’s power is made evident not in flashy moments but in faithful obedience.” Even when we feel unqualified, God uses our weaknesses to reveal His strength.
