Introduction:

Living by faith is not a one-time event but a daily journey. Every day, believers are called to trust God in life’s big and small moments. We are invited to walk by faith, not sight, which means relying on God’s guidance rather than our understanding of the circumstances around us. This can be challenging because it requires letting go of control and trusting that God’s plan is better than our own. But as we grow in our relationship with Him, we learn that a life of faith is the most fulfilling and purposeful life we can live.

Scripture Reflection:

“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV)

This simple yet profound verse from Paul reminds us that the Christian life is a walk of faith. We are not called to rely on what we can see or understand with our natural senses. Instead, we are called to trust in God’s unseen hand guiding us. Faith means confidently stepping into the unknown because we know the One who leads us is faithful. Living by faith means that even when the future is uncertain, we trust that God is in control and has a plan for our good.

What It Means to Live by Faith:

1. Trusting God in Daily Decisions:

Walking by faith is not reserved for the significant moments in life—it is a daily practice. Whether it’s making decisions about work, relationships, or finances, we are called to trust God’s wisdom over our own. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.” Each day offers countless opportunities to rely on God’s direction and trust He knows what is best for us, even when we can’t see the whole picture.

2. Letting Go of Control and Trusting God’s Plan:

One of the hardest parts of walking by faith is letting go of control. We naturally want to manage our lives, make our plans, and control the outcome. But faith requires us to release that control to God and trust His plan for our lives. Letting go is an act of surrender, believing that God’s ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). It’s about accepting that we don’t have to have everything figured out because God is working all things for our good (Romans 8:28).

How to Grow in Walking by Faith:

1. Practicing Surrender in Daily Life:

Surrendering to God is a daily practice. It’s a decision we make every morning to trust Him with our lives and our plans. Practicing surrender means laying down our desires, worries, and fears at God’s feet and asking Him to lead us. It can be helpful to start your day with a simple prayer of surrender, asking God to guide your steps and help you walk by faith throughout the day.

2. Real-life Examples of Walking by Faith:

Abraham (Genesis 12): When God called Abraham to leave his home and go to a land He would show him, Abraham stepped out in faith without knowing where he was going. He trusted that God had a plan despite the unclear details.

Peter (Matthew 14:22-33): When Peter saw Jesus walking on water, he asked if he could come to Him. Jesus called Peter to step out of the boat, and Peter walked on water until he allowed fear to take over. Peter’s story reminds us that when we keep our eyes on Jesus, we can do what seems impossible by faith.

These examples show us that living by faith often requires stepping out of our comfort zones, trusting God in the unknown, and believing He will provide a way.

The Christian walk is a journey of faith, not sight. We are called to trust God, even when we can’t see the full picture, knowing He is always faithful.

Action Step:

Identify an area where you struggle to trust God and walk by faith. It could be a relationship, a decision about your future, or a challenging circumstance. Spend time in prayer this week, asking God to give you the faith to trust Him in that area. Write down any promises from Scripture that speak to your situation and meditate on them daily.
