Introduction:

Faith is only as strong as the object in which it is placed. As Christians, the object of our faith is not a concept, a philosophy, or even a list of rules—it’s a person, Jesus Christ. Jesus is not only the one who calls us to faith, but He is also the one who perfects it. When our faith is rooted in Him, we are anchored, secure, and able to persevere through life’s challenges. Today, we’ll focus on what it means to fix our eyes on Jesus as the object of our faith and how that transforms how we live, which is the key to stronger faith.

“Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”— Hebrews 12:2 (ESV)

This verse calls us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the author, and perfecter of our faith. The image here is one of focus and intention. To live by faith means to constantly look to Christ, the one who initiates our faith and brings it to completion. He endured the cross for our salvation, and now, seated at the right hand of God, He is our perfect example and the source of our strength. Faith begins with Jesus and finds its fulfillment in Him. He is the reason for our faith and the one who sustains it.

Why Jesus is the Author and Perfecter of Faith:

The Centrality of Christ in Our Faith:

At the heart of our Christian faith is Jesus. He is the foundation upon which everything else is built. Without Jesus, our faith has no meaning. He is the one who revealed God to us, lived a perfect life, died for our sins, and rose again to give us eternal life. Jesus initiated our faith by offering salvation through His work on the cross. But He didn’t stop there—He is continually at work in us, perfecting our faith, helping us grow, and drawing us closer to God.

By focusing on Jesus, we align our faith with its true purpose. He is the one who models for us what it means to live by faith, trusting the Father in all things, even in the face of suffering. Jesus’ victory over sin and death guarantees the fulfillment of our faith, and by looking to Him, we are reminded that the work He began in us will bring to completion (Philippians 1:6).

How to Fix Our Eyes on Jesus for Stronger Faith:

Daily Practices to Keep Our Focus on Christ:

1. Spend Time in Scripture: Reading and meditating on the Bible keeps our focus on Christ. The Word of God is where we encounter Jesus, and as we reflect on His life, teachings, and promises, our faith is strengthened. Start your day with a passage that reminds you of who Jesus is and what He has done for you.

2. Prayer and Worship: Regular prayer is essential to keeping our eyes on Jesus. Through prayer, we invite Him into every part of our lives, aligning our will with His. In private and community worship, we also center on Jesus, reminding us of His greatness and faithfulness.

3. Practicing Gratitude: When we intentionally thank God for what Jesus has done, we keep our hearts focused on Him. Gratitude shifts our perspective from our circumstances to God’s provision and goodness. Each day, take a moment to thank Jesus for His work in your life.

4. Serving Others: One of the best ways to keep our focus on Jesus is to follow His example of serving others. When we serve with love and humility, we imitate Christ, who came not to be served but to serve (Mark 10:45). This keeps us grounded in our faith and reminds us of Jesus’ sacrificial love.

Faith finds its true focus in Jesus. He is the author of our faith, the one who starts it, and He is the perfecter, the one who will bring it to completion.
