In Philippians 1:3, Paul expresses a heartfelt gratitude for the people in his life. Writing to the church at Philippi, he shares how every memory of them fills him with thankfulness toward God. This verse is a beautiful reminder that the people God places in our lives—friends, family, mentors, and even those who challenge us—are gifts worthy of our gratitude. By thanking God for them, we deepen our appreciation for those relationships and grow closer to Him, the source of all good things.
“I thank my God in all my remembrance of you.” — Philippians 1:3 (ESV)
Too often, we take relationships for granted. We might overlook the blessings of a close friend’s encouragement, the steadfast love of family, or the guidance of a mentor. Paul’s words challenge us to slow down and recognize how others have played a role in our spiritual growth, supported us in tough times, or shared life’s joys and burdens. When we thank God for the people in our lives, we shift our focus from what we might lack in our relationships to the abundance of love and support we’ve already been given.
Gratitude for others also transforms how we interact with them. When we start with thanksgiving, our perspective shifts from one of expectation to one of appreciation. This attitude strengthens our relationships, fostering kindness, patience, and love. Thankfulness creates a ripple effect, drawing us closer to those we care about and encouraging us to express our gratitude directly to them. Paul thanked God for the Philippians and shared his gratitude with them, strengthening their bond and inspiring them to continue their excellent work in the faith.
Today, reflect on the people who have impacted your life.
Who has encouraged your faith, supported you through challenges, or brought joy into your days? Take a moment to thank God for them, acknowledging how He has used them to bless and shape your life. Then, let those people know how much they mean to you. A word of gratitude, a note, or a kind gesture can brighten someone’s day and deepen your connection.
Gratitude for the people in our lives is an act of worship, acknowledging God’s provision through relationships. It reminds us that we are part of a greater community designed to walk together in love and faith. As we cultivate this gratitude, we strengthen our relationships, honor God, and reflect His love to those around us.
Gratitude for others deepens relationships and honors God, who blesses us through community.

What a great message Chad!
Because I was raised in a godless home with no emphasis on relationships, it took me a long time and some difficult circumstances before I was open to see how important relationships are. Now that my eyes are open, I can’t be thankful enough for so many brothers and sisters in Christ, with you and Nyree being 2 of them!
Thank you again for your commitment to encourage us each day with great insights into the Word and truths of God and His Kingdom. God richly bless you!!
