Anna’s story is a testament to steadfast devotion and faithfulness. As a widow for many decades, she dedicated her life to worship, fasting, and prayer in the temple. Her faithfulness positioned her to witness one of the greatest moments in history—the presentation of the infant Jesus in the temple. At that moment, Anna immediately recognized Him as the Redeemer and began giving thanks to God, sharing the good news with all waiting for Jerusalem’s redemption.

“And there was a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived with her husband seven years from when she was a virgin, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She did not depart from the temple, worshiping with fasting and prayer night and day. And coming up at that very hour, she began to give thanks to God and to speak of him to all who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.” Luke 2:36-38 (ESV

Faithfulness in worship prepares us to see God’s work.

What stands out about Anna is her unwavering commitment to worship, even during personal loss, and a long wait for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Her life reminds us that faithfulness in worship is not about a single moment but a consistent, daily dedication to seeking God. Through her devotion, Anna was ready to see God’s work and to respond with gratitude and proclamation.

In our lives, it can be easy to grow weary in worship, especially during seasons of waiting or difficulty. Anna encourages us to remain steadfast, trusting God is at work even when we don’t see immediate results. Her story shows that worship is not just about what we do on Sundays—it’s about cultivating a heart that seeks God continually in every moment of life.

Anna’s faithfulness also teaches us the importance of sharing the good news. She couldn’t keep it to herself when she recognized Jesus as the Redeemer. Her natural response was to give thanks and tell others.

Worship prepares our hearts to see God’s work and share His love and redemption with those around us.

Action Step: Spend extra time in worship or prayer today, focusing on God’s faithfulness. Consider how you can make worship more consistent in your daily routine. Write down one way you can share the good news of Jesus with someone this week.

“Faithfulness in worship opens our eyes to God’s faithfulness in our lives.”

This truth reminds us that when we draw near to God through worship, we can better see His presence and work in our world.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Anna’s example of faithfulness and devotion. Help me to remain steadfast in worship, even when the answers seem far away. Teach me to seek You daily, trusting You are always at work. Open my eyes to see Your presence and Your redemption, and give me the courage to share the good news with others. Amen.
