The heart of Christmas is love—the incredible, self-giving love of God revealed in the birth of Jesus. In 1 John 4:9-10, we are reminded of the magnitude of this love. God sent His only Son into the world so we might live through Him. This act of love is unparalleled, a gift given not because we deserved it but because God loved us first.
“In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” 1 John 4:9-10 (ESV)
God’s love is the foundation of Christmas and our hope for eternity.
At Christmas, we celebrate more than just a baby in a manger; we celebrate the manifestation of God’s love in human form. Jesus came into the world to show us how much we are loved and to make a way for us to be reconciled with God. His sacrifice on the cross, foreshadowed in His birth, demonstrates the depth of His love—a love that willingly bears the weight of our sins so that we might live.
This love is not distant or conditional. It’s a love that pursues us, meets us where we are, and invites us into a relationship with God. Through Jesus, we see the lengths God will go to rescue and redeem us. His love gives us life, hope, and the assurance that we are never alone.
As we move past the celebration of Christmas Day, let us carry the wonder of His love into the days ahead.
God’s love is not confined to a season—it is eternal and unchanging. Let it transform how we live, relate to others, and share the good news of Jesus with the world.
Action Step: Take time today to reflect on how God has shown you His love. Write down three specific examples and spend time in prayer, thanking Him for His faithfulness. Look for an opportunity to share His love with someone today, whether through words, actions, or a simple gesture of kindness.
“Love came down at Christmas, love all lovely, love divine.” – Christina Rossetti
This simple yet profound line reminds us of the divine love that entered the world through Jesus Christ.
