Faith is never meant to be hoarded. Like light, it’s meant to shine. Like a seed, it’s meant to be sown. The lessons you’ve gleaned from James weren’t just for your growth—they’re also meant for encouraging others in their faith journey.

You’ve walked through conviction, reflection, and transformation. Now, the question is: Who needs to hear what you’ve learned?

As we near the end of Faith in Action – Walking Through James, today’s devotional challenges you to move from reflection to multiplication—to pass along truth, hope, and encouragement to someone else.

“Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:11 (ESV)

The truth God teaches you is often the encouragement someone else needs—don’t keep it to yourself.

One of the most powerful ways to grow in faith is to share your learning. Teaching reinforces truth, and encouraging others spreads strength. Your journey can become someone else’s breakthrough.

1. Faith Grows When It’s Shared

When you tell others how God has been working in your life—how He’s convicted, comforted, or challenged you—you:

  • Inspire others to dig deeper into Scripture
  • Open up space for honest conversations
  • Remind others they’re not alone in their struggles

You don’t need to be a preacher or a writer to encourage someone. You need to be authentic and willing to share.

2. Your Story Is a Testimony

Think back over the past few weeks.

  • What lesson from James has impacted you the most?
  • How have you changed, repented, grown, or made a new commitment?
  • Has your speech become more intentional? Has your patience deepened? Has your prayer life been revived?

Each of those moments is a story worth sharing—not because you’ve arrived, but because you’re moving forward. And your movement inspires others.

3. Encouragement is a Ministry

Sometimes, we think of “ministry” as a stage or title—but ministry is simply helping others take a step closer to Jesus.

  • Send a message to a friend with a verse or thought that encouraged you.
  • Share your favorite takeaway from James on social media.
  • Invite someone to read the book of James with you or do this devotional series together.

You never know how a small act of encouragement can redirect someone’s entire day—or even their faith journey.

How Do You Encourage Others in Faith?

  • Be honest and hopeful. Share your struggles and the truth that’s helping you press on.
  • Ask good questions. Instead of preaching, invite conversation:
    • “What’s God been teaching you lately?”
    • “Want to study something together?”
  • Model what you’ve learned. Let your actions—your patience, speech, humility—be the sermon.
  • Be available. Sometimes, the best encouragement is simply showing up, listening, and reminding someone they’re not alone.

Action Step:

Think of one person who could use some encouragement.

  • Text them a verse, a takeaway from this study, or a prayer.
  • Write a short social media post about what James has taught you.
  • Consider starting a small group or online devotional group to walk through James or another book together.

Let what God has poured into you overflow into the lives of others.

“God comforts us in our troubles so that we can comfort others with the same comfort we’ve received.”
—Paraphrase of 2 Corinthians 1:4

Prayer:

Lord, thank You for all You’ve shown me in Your Word. Please help me not to keep it to myself. Give me boldness and compassion to share what I’ve learned, to speak truth in love, and to encourage others in their walk with You. Let my life and words point people to Jesus. In His name, I pray, Amen.
