Throughout scripture, God calls us to put our faith in Him. When things are going well, He is there. When things are not going well, He is there. His presence is with us everywhere that we are and He is aware of every circumstance that we face in our lives. Therefore, God hears and answers your prayer so call on Him!
Story: Kicking The Bird Trap
The celebrated William Ewart Gladstone used to tell friends about a neighbor’s little girl who really believed in prayer. Her brother had made a trap that caught little sparrows and she prayed that it might fail. Suddenly for three days, her face was radiant when she prayed and her absolute faith in the futility of the trap was so noticeable that her mother asked: “Julia, how can you be so positive?” She smiled, “Because, dear Mama, I went out three days ago and kicked the trap to pieces.”—Maxwell Droke
Psalm 22 is a weighty chapter because the first verse is quoted by Christ when He hung on the cross. “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?” Psalm 22:1 (ESV) While Jesus quoted this in His darkest hour, it is a reminder to us that Christ identifies with the feelings we have when we suffer.
As you read through the chapter, you can’t help but identify with the emotional struggle of the Psalmist. They feel as if the world is collapsing around them and that everyone is coming against them. This feeling was expressed in no uncertain terms yet a statement of faith from the heart concludes the chapter.
Scripture
The Psalmist says: “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will praise you: You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you offspring of Jacob, glorify him and stand in awe of him, all you offspring of Israel! For he has not despised or abhorred the affliction of the afflicted, and he has not hidden his face from him but has heard when he cried to him. From you comes my praise in the great congregation; my vows I will perform before those who fear him. The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied; those who seek him shall praise the Lord! May your hearts live forever!” Psalm 22:22–26 (ESV)
The statement of faith begins with, “regardless of the circumstances that I face, I am going to glorify you in the presence of others!” The witness of the goodness of God in spite of the earthly circumstances helps focus them on the source of all good things. Additionally, they know that in the end, God knows what He is doing and has a plan that He is fulfilling.
Regardless of whether or not we understand what is happening in the grand scheme of God’s eternal plan, know we can trust Him. We can praise Him in the midst of the circumstance because life here on earth is full of temporary pain, but God will be with us through it all!
We can also praise Him because he hears our cry and is able to answer according to His will. While we may not always understand the outcome, we can trust that He is intimately aware of our heartache and pain. In the midst of our most difficult circumstances is where He reveals who He is and how much He cares for us.
His presence is evident when we need him most!
This passage reveals that in the end, the Psalmist is dedicated to fulfilling the expectations God has for worship and living. They will not be deterred by the circumstances of life! Commitment to God’s plan is the highest priority!
In the end, God has promised that He will supply our needs. Not only is He capable, but He will put His hand of blessing on those who trust in Him. Paul said it this way, “And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (ESV)
Jesus tells us “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 (ESV) He promises that if we keep our eyes on Him and His Kingdom’s purposes, our needs will be supplied!
Jesus understands what you are facing in your life and identifies with the struggles you face. You can put your faith in Him and watch Him supply your needs! This is a great comfort to those who put His priorities first in their lives! God Hears and Answers Prayer!
