“And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.” (Psalm 78:72)

The heart of a servant leader prioritizes service over personal gain. David is a prime example of such a leader. Known for his skill and wisdom, his heart—a heart after God—made his leadership truly impactful. David’s leadership was not just about his accomplishments but also his willingness to serve others and place their needs above his own.

Servant leadership is in stark contrast to a world that often equates leadership with power and control. Jesus modeled this by washing His disciples’ feet, teaching us true leadership is about humility and service.

A servant leader is not concerned with titles or recognition but with genuinely caring for and uplifting those they lead. This type of leadership fosters a nurturing environment where people feel valued and respected, leading to greater cooperation and productivity.

Identify practical ways to serve those around you this week. It could be through acts of kindness, offering a listening ear, or helping someone with a task. Make it a point to prioritize others’ needs, demonstrating the love and humility of Christ in your actions.

Father, cultivate in me a heart of service and humility. Please help me to lead not for my benefit but to uplift and serve those around me. Let my actions reflect Your love and grace, and may I always seek to honor You through my service. Amen.
