“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
Courage is essential for any leader, especially those called to lead in faith. In Joshua 1:9, God commands Joshua to be strong and courageous as he steps into Moses’ shoes. This call to courage is not based on human strength but on the assurance of God’s presence. We leaders often face daunting tasks, opposition, and uncertain outcomes. It is easy to become fearful or discouraged. However, true courage comes from trusting God’s promises and constant presence.
Courageous leadership involves making tough decisions, standing up for truth, and leading by example, even when unpopular or risky. It means being willing to take the first step into unknown territories, just as Joshua did. This courage is not the absence of fear but the willingness to move forward despite it, trusting that God will provide and guide.
Identify an area in your life or ministry where you must exercise courage. This could be addressing a difficult issue, stepping into a new role, or sharing your faith more boldly. Take a step this week to act courageously, relying on God’s strength and guidance.
Lord, help me be strong and courageous in everything I do. Let Your presence be my comfort and strength. Grant me the courage to lead boldly and faithfully, knowing that You are with me every step. Amen.
