“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” (Philippians 2:3)
Humility is a foundational virtue in Christian leadership. Paul’s exhortation in Philippians 2:3 challenges us to put others’ interests before our own. Jesus Himself modeled perfect humility by leaving the glory of heaven to serve humanity, ultimately sacrificing His life on the cross. True humility involves recognizing our limitations and dependence on God while valuing others and their contributions.
In leadership, humility allows us to lead without arrogance, acknowledge our mistakes, and seek continuous growth. It fosters a culture of respect and collaboration, where everyone’s input is valued. Humble leaders are more approachable and inspire loyalty and respect from their followers. They understand that leadership is not about power or prestige but serving others.
Reflect on your interactions with others this week. Practice humility by actively listening, valuing others’ opinions, and admitting when you’re wrong. Set an example that encourages a culture of humility in your team.
Lord, teach me to walk in humility. Help me to value others above myself and to lead with a servant’s heart. May my actions reflect the humility of Christ, bringing glory to You and building up those around me. Amen.
