Scripture: Psalm 34:8 (ESV) “Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!”

Devotional

It’s one thing to know about God’s goodness; it’s another thing entirely to experience it personally. Psalm 34:8 invites us to “taste and see” that the Lord is good. This verse is a beautiful invitation to experience God’s goodness firsthand, not just intellectually but in a tangible and real way. But how do we do that when life feels overwhelming, or when things don’t seem to go as planned?

Faith in God’s goodness is about trusting that, no matter what circumstances we face, God remains good. It’s easy to trust in God’s goodness when things are going well, but when life gets complicated, we’re often tempted to doubt whether He is really good. Yet, God’s goodness is not based on how we feel or what we see; it is rooted in His character. He is always good, and His plans for us are filled with hope and purpose (Jeremiah 29:11).

He is working all things together for our good.

“Tasting” God’s goodness means stepping out in faith and trusting Him, even when we don’t understand our situation. It’s believing that He is working all things together for our good (Romans 8:28), even when the outcome isn’t immediately apparent. Just as we taste and savor delicious food, we are called to experience God’s goodness by trusting Him with every aspect of our lives, no matter how uncertain things may seem.

As Psalm 34:8 suggests, we are blessed when we take refuge in God. Taking refuge in Him means finding shelter and safety in His presence. It’s a place of rest and peace, knowing that God is working behind the scenes, orchestrating things for our benefit. The more we trust in His goodness, the more we will experience His peace, joy, and blessing.

If you’ve been struggling to see God’s goodness in your current circumstances, this is your reminder to “taste and see” once again. He is inviting you to trust in His character and His goodness, knowing that He is with you in every season.

Action Step

Take some time today to reflect on how you’ve experienced God’s goodness in your life. Write down moments where you’ve seen His faithfulness, even in small ways. If you’re currently going through a difficult time, take a step of faith by thanking God for His goodness, even if you can’t see the full picture yet.

Spend a few moments in prayer, asking God to open your eyes to His goodness in new and unexpected ways. Trust that He is working all things together for your good.

Prayer

Father, I thank You for Your goodness that never changes. Even when I don’t understand what’s happening in my life, I trust that You are good and that Your plans for me are filled with hope. Help me to “taste and see” Your goodness every day and to trust You in every season. Thank You for being my refuge, my strength, and my peace. I choose to rest in Your goodness today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
