Understanding God’s Goodness and Love

Psalm 106:1 invites us into a heart posture of thanksgiving and praise, centered on two foundational truths about God: His goodness and steadfast love. These qualities of God are unchanging and eternal, providing us with a constant reason to give thanks, no matter what life brings. This verse reminds us that gratitude isn’t merely a reaction to what God has done but a response to who He is—good and loving in every season.

“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” — Psalm 106:1 (ESV)

The psalmist starts with a call to “praise the Lord!” This isn’t a casual suggestion; it’s an emphatic declaration that thanksgiving and praise belong to God. Why? Because He is good. His goodness isn’t circumstantial or dependent on what’s happening in our lives. It’s a part of His nature, a constant assurance that we can trust Him even in uncertain times.
