Psalm 106:1 invites us into a heart posture of thanksgiving and praise, centered on two foundational truths about God: His goodness and steadfast love. These qualities of God are unchanging and eternal, providing us with a constant reason to give thanks, no matter what life brings. This verse reminds us that gratitude isn’t merely a reaction to what God has done but a response to who He is—good and loving in every season.
“Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!” — Psalm 106:1 (ESV)
The psalmist starts with a call to “praise the Lord!” This isn’t a casual suggestion; it’s an emphatic declaration that thanksgiving and praise belong to God. Why? Because He is good. His goodness isn’t circumstantial or dependent on what’s happening in our lives. It’s a part of His nature, a constant assurance that we can trust Him even in uncertain times. Paired with His goodness is His steadfast love—a love that doesn’t waver, fail, or grow weary. This enduring love is the foundation of our faith and the source of our hope.
We find countless reasons to give thanks when we reflect on God’s goodness and steadfast love.
Gratitude shifts our focus from what we lack to what we have in Him: a faithful God whose love endures forever. This eternal perspective transforms how we view our circumstances. Instead of being overwhelmed by challenges, we are anchored by the assurance that God’s love is unchanging and His goodness is unfailing.
Today, take time to meditate on the steadfast love of God in your life. How have you experienced His goodness recently? Reflect on moments where His love has sustained, provided for, or carried you through difficult seasons. As you think about these moments, let your gratitude grow into praise. Whether through prayer, song, or sharing with someone else, express your thanks to God for His enduring love and goodness.
Gratitude for God’s goodness lifts our hearts and strengthens our faith.
It reminds us that the God who loves us steadfastly is the same yesterday, today, and forever. As we live in thanksgiving, we reflect His love to the world, becoming beacons of hope and encouragement to those around us.
Gratitude for God’s goodness and steadfast love provides peace and joy in every season.
