Romans 8:28 is a verse of incredible hope and reassurance of God’s purpose. It reminds us that God is always at work, orchestrating everything for our ultimate good. This promise is a powerful foundation for gratitude, even when life feels messy or uncertain. It encourages us to trust that no matter what we face, God is weaving our circumstances into a greater purpose that aligns with His perfect will.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” — Romans 8:28 (ESV)

It’s important to note that this verse doesn’t suggest everything we experience will feel good or be easy. Life includes trials, pain, and seasons of waiting. However, the assurance we find in Romans 8:28 is that God is sovereign over all of it. He uses even the hardest moments to refine, grow, and draw us closer to Him. Gratitude rooted in this truth isn’t about ignoring difficulties but about trusting in the bigger picture that God is crafting.

When we give thanks during challenges, we trust God’s perspective over our own.

Gratitude in difficult circumstances doesn’t mean we deny our struggles; instead, it reflects our faith that God is working through them. It’s an act of surrender, acknowledging that He is in control and His plans are for our good. This kind of gratitude strengthens our faith, fills us with peace, and draws us closer to the One who holds everything together.

Today, take a moment to reflect on a situation where God brought good out of something difficult in your life. How did He guide, grow, or bless you through that experience? Thank Him for His faithfulness in the past, and trust Him to work for your good in the present. As you reflect on His sovereignty, let it inspire gratitude and strengthen your hope.

Gratitude rooted in God’s promise to work all things for good isn’t just transformative for us—it’s also a testimony to others. When they see our faith and thankfulness during trials, they’re drawn to the God who provides peace and purpose beyond understanding. Living with this perspective reflects His light to a world needing hope.

Gratitude in every season reflects our trust in God’s promise to work all things for our good.

Action Step: Write down one challenge you’re facing today. Spend time thanking God for how He might use this situation for your growth or His glory, even if you can’t see the full picture yet.

  1. I love how God works! Today I needed to do several errands still in my boot, which is always a challenge. I make sweatshirts and had put the chorus to this song on one for me, and today is the 1st day I’ve worn it! I smiled at God’s faithfulness to me, knowing there are NO coincidences with God and He always knows how to encourage His kids!
