The angelic choir that appeared to the shepherds is one of the most beautiful scenes in the story of Jesus’ birth. After the angel announced the Savior’s arrival, many angels appeared, praising God and declaring, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!” This heavenly celebration revealed the joy of God’s redemptive plan unfolding on earth.

“When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‘Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.’ And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.” Luke 2:15-20 (ESV)

Heaven rejoices in God’s plans.

The shepherds’ response to this miraculous event was immediate. They left their flocks and went straight to Bethlehem to witness the good news they had been told. When they found Mary, Joseph, and the baby Jesus, they shared what the angels had told them. Their experience of heaven’s joy became their testimony to others, and everyone who heard it marveled at their words.

This story reminds us that God’s plans are always a cause for celebration.

Heaven rejoices when His purposes are fulfilled, and we are invited to join in that celebration. The shepherds’ joy moved them to action—they sought Jesus, shared their testimony, and praised God for all they had seen and heard. Their example encourages us to do the same.

How often do we celebrate God’s work in our lives? In the busyness of life, we can forget to pause and rejoice in His goodness. The angelic choir and the shepherds remind us to celebrate what God has done, to share His good news with others, and to praise Him for His faithfulness.

Action Step: Take time today to sing your favorite Christmas hymn or worship song. Let the lyrics remind you of the joy of Christ’s birth and the fulfillment of God’s promises. Consider sharing your favorite song with a friend or loved one to spread the season’s joy.

“Heaven and nature sing.” – Isaac Watts, Joy to the World

This line from Joy to the World reflects all creation’s celebration of God’s redemptive plan. Let your heart join in the song of heaven today as you rejoice in the Savior’s birth.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the joy of heaven that erupted at the birth of Jesus. Help me join that celebration and praise You for all You have done. May I be like the shepherds, eager to share the good news with others and to glorify You in all things. Let my heart be filled with the joy of heaven today and every day. Amen.
