Where shall I go from your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from your presence? If I ascend to heaven, you are there! If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there! If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me. Psalm 139:7-10 (ESV)

I will be the first to admit that there are days that I don’t live fully in the expectation that the day will be amazing!  There are days that I don’t look forward to because of the tasks or circumstances of the day.  Other days, I am looking forward to the day with a joyful expectation of something good.

Now I know that there are those out there that would remind me that as a believer, I am supposed to live with joyous expectation every single day, singing “Everything is Awesome!” But honestly, I do have difficult days and it is then that I have to talk to myself. (Does anyone else talk to yourself? No? Ok)

Scripture

Psalm 139:7-10 is a great comfort for when the struggles in this life come calling, we can be reminded in the Bible that God is with us.  There is no place that we can go to that he is not already there!  His presence permeates every known place in the universe and there is nowhere we can go to hide from Him.

So when I go about my day, I remind myself that God is ever-present in times of difficulty and in times of blessing.  It is incomprehensible to think that God is not present in the circumstances of life.  For the Psalmist reminds us that God is present in the heavens and in the depths of the sea, he is everywhere!

He Will Lead Me

Not only will I be in His presence everywhere that I go, but it is also his desire to speak His will to me.  When I recognize that God’s heart is for me to know His will for my life, I can have confidence in the fact that he will do what He can to lead me.  I must stay aware of the promptings of the Spirit in my own life and respond in obedience.

I know that He puts dreams in my heart, thoughts in my mind, and direction to my spirit when I stay alert.  it is His heart to use me in a unique way if I will be faithful to Him.  Recognizing that He is leading me through His presence is the first step!

His Right Hand Will Hold Me

He then goes on to say that God’s right hand will hold me.  This is a reference to the authority and power of God to do what He wills in my life.  I know that I don’t have to face the challenges or accomplish His will on my own, but that God will in his sovereignty accomplish it.  This is comforting to us when we are faced with a day that we may not be excited about!

God is already working things out for our good and His glory when He is in control.  Our submission to His authority is key in our lives in order to see Him work through us in the Kingdom. If we have not submitted to Him, then His greatest desire is our repentance.

Application

Regardless of where you are today, God is there. He is available to you if you are in the heavens, in the depth of the sea, or simply in a cubicle at work.  There is not one place that you and I can go that God is not available.

Calling out to Him will not only elicit a response from Him, but His presence will be a reminder that He loves you and has a plan for your life.  God is available to you always.  Night or day.

Live in Expectation today!

Blessings,

Chad
