The Psalmist has a way of conveying what many of us experience in our own lives. He shares the highs and lows of life as well as the failures and successes. Here in Psalm 73 he shares of his failures and how God is the ever-present guide that is availble to those who have commited to serve Him!

Each one of us that have read through the Psalms have identified with ups and downs. Personal and public circumstances that challenged the hope and faith they had in God. Additionally, the Psalmist shared their own personal failure and God’s faithfulness.

The Psalmist says, “When my soul was embittered, when I was pricked in heart, I was brutish and ignorant; I was like a beast toward you.”Psalm 73:21–22 (ESV)

While the exact circumstances that caused the embitterd soul or pricked heart, his response was the issue. In spite of God’s goodness and faithfulness, the Psalmist responded brutishly and with ignorance. He never excused his actions, but recognized His failure and recommitted himself to God.

In spite of the personal failure, the Psalmist recognized God’s faithfulness. “Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.” Psalm 73:23–24 (ESV)

A God Reminder

I believe that God included this in the scripture to remind us that He will be faithful to us. In spite of the hurt and pain that the Psalmist was experiencing and the failure to respond properly, God never left. He was always there to provide wisdom and counsel for the rest of the Psalmist’s life.

I don’t know what you are facing in your life today. The struggle with hurt and pain can be overwhelming. To the point that our moutain can seem bigger than we can bear.

Know that God is available to you and will not leave you. He longs to walk hand in hand with you through this life, guiding you with His counsel and leading you to eternity. His greatest desire is for us to be with Him in glory and will always point us in that direction.

Commit your life to Him and you will find that He will be there. He will speak His direction in your life and will keep you until your eternal reward. Trust Him with your life and you can look back and say that God was faithful to you!
