The world today is in constant pursuit of something that will fill the void in their hearts. Chasing after things that could never satisfy, they are always on the look out for fulfillment. Yet, what the world offers is only a shadow of the truth that God fulfills your life!
I don’t know about your life today, but my day went off the rails after lunch time. Everything that I had planned to do didn’t get done. Instead I rescued a daughter who had car trouble, fixed it and dropped it off to her at work. Then had a long walk back to get my own car.
I really didn’t mind the walk, I had time to take care of a phone meeting while I walked. Also I had time to just process all that is happening in the world today. The turmoil, chaos, and threats of greater conflicts that is constantly in the news. It all can be overwhelming without some type of foundation to rely on.
As I walked, I thought about the relationship that I have with the Lord and the rest that I can find in Him. Yes, there will be disappointments, trials, and difficulties, but God secures us in Him. That is why the Psalmist could say,
“Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” Psalm 16:9–11 (ESV)
My heart is glad and everything I am rejoices!
Describing a life that is rooted in a relationship with God, the Psalmist overflows with gladness that begins in the heart and is expressed outwardly. It is not ignorant of the troubles of life, rather in spite of it all, God pours out His love and we respond in gladness! Joy is the fruit of a life that is transformed by one encounter with Christ!
My flesh dwells securely in Him!
God will not abandon those whose faith is secure in Him. When we trust Him in this life, He not only establishes us but He prepares for us to spend an eternity with Him. The believer does not dread death, nor do they fear eternity. A steadfast faith says, I know that God will keep me forever in His care and presence!
My joyous and pleasurable path is ordered by Him!
The passage finishes with a confidence that God guides the footsteps of the righteous. When we stay in tune with God’s heart, we know that He will lead us in fulfill His purposes. He knows every tomorrow that we have on this earth and is eager to help us find our way.
When our hearts are filled with Him, we won’t have to go looking for something of this world to fulfill us. Rather, we can rest in the fact that God is actively pouring out His favor and blessing in our lives. He wants to be our everything because only God fulfills your life! Put your trust in Him and let Him transform your life!
