God has not only declared that He is a gracious giver, but as believers we can testify to His goodness! The greatest of the gifts He has blessed us with is the grace that He has shown to us through sending His Son to pay the punishment for our sins. He is a God who is generous in giving gifts of grace!

Throughout my life, I can testify to the fact that God has been gracious to me. Regardless of whether or not I have deserved the gift of grace, He has extended it to me! For that, I am extremely grateful for the abounding love that He shows in my life! He truely is a generous God!

From the begining of the Bible, God has not only shown Himself to be giving, but also instructed those who serve Him to also model His generous grace. When He spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab He instructed him:

Numbers 35:1–2 (ESV):

“Command the people of Israel to give to the Levites some of the inheritance of their possession as cities for them to dwell in. And you shall give to the Levites pasturelands around the cities.

Before the children of Israel entered the promise land, they are instructed to help the spiritual leaders (Levites) by giving them cities. As God has blessed the Israelites, they were to give back a portion to the work of the Lord. They had the opportunity to walk in obedience and it came with the blessing of continued spiritual guidance. God would use the Levites to bless the nation with His word for them!

Additionally, God also provided refuge cities for those who committed murder. He institutes a system of grace by providing them a place they can go as a place of house arrest.

Numbers 35:6–8 (ESV):

“The cities that you give to the Levites shall be the six cities of refuge, where you shall permit the manslayer to flee, and in addition to them you shall give forty-two cities. All the cities that you give to the Levites shall be forty-eight, with their pasturelands. And as for the cities that you shall give from the possession of the people of Israel, from the larger tribes you shall take many, and from the smaller tribes you shall take few; each, in proportion to the inheritance that it inherits, shall give of its cities to the Levites.”

Finally, this system of grace also extends to various types of hospitality. Several times through Paul’s letters especially to the Corinthians. He requests that they would provide hospitality for Timothy

1 Corinthians 16:10–11 (ESV):

When Timothy comes, see that you put him at ease among you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, as I am. So let no one despise him. Help him on his way in peace, that he may return to me, for I am expecting him with the brothers.

Our God is gracious to us and He calls us to be the same in our relationships with others. Even when we don’t feel like doing it and even when our sense of justice makes if difficult and frustrating. The question we must ask ourselves, “Is God calling you to be gracious to someone in your life? How are you going to be generous to them?

Ultimately, we have the responsibility and privledge to represent our Heavenly Father to the world around us. May we be gracious and God has been so generous to show us grace! God will in turn, bless and guide us in pursuing His kingdom purposes through our lives!

It begins with Christ!

If you don’t know Christ as your savior, it all begins with the first step. Committing your life to serve Him is the greatest decision you will make in your life! Finally, for more information on serving the Lord: CLICK HERE!
