“When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.”
— Isaiah 43:2
During our trials, this promise from Isaiah brings immense comfort. It assures us that no matter what we face—overwhelming waters or consuming fires—God is with us, protecting and guiding us through every challenge.
💬 Finding God in Adversity:
“In all trouble you should seek God. You should not set him over against your troubles, but within them. God can only relieve your troubles if you in your anxiety cling to him. Trouble should not really be thought of as this thing or that in particular, for our whole life on earth involves trouble; and through the troubles of our earthly pilgrimage we find God.”
— Augustine of Hippo
Augustine’s wisdom encourages us to see God not as separate from our troubles but as present within them. It is through our difficulties that we genuinely find and cling to Him.
💬 Three Things to Remember:
- You are created:
In times of trouble, remember who created you.
“But now, this is what the Lord says—he who created you.” — Isaiah 43:1 - You are redeemed:
In times of trouble, the Lord says,
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you.” — Isaiah 43:1 - You are summoned, called by name:
In times of trouble, the Lord says,
“Fear not … I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” — Isaiah 43:1
These three truths remind us of our identity and worth in God’s eyes. We are His creation, redeemed by His love and personally called by Him. Let these assurances strengthen your faith and bring peace to your heart today.
🙏 Reflection:
Take a moment to reflect on the adversity you are facing. Invite God into your troubles, trust His promises, and remember who you are in Him. May His presence bring you comfort and hope.
