Prayer is one of the most important aspects of a believer’s life. The opportunity that God has given to us to enter into the throne room of God is a privilege. Paul challenges us in being persistent in prayer because it is the key to confidently handling the challenges of life!

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Colossians 4:2 (ESV)

It is fitting that when Paul talks about how believers are to use their speech to glorify God, he begins with prayer. It is the most important conversation that we can have. Prayer is the key to fellowship with the Lord and having the power to resist the enemy.

Additionally, prayer is the avenue to confess sin, praise God, share our needs, and intercede for one another. When we pray from a pure heart we are most likely to desire to align with the heart of God. This not only helps us to know the will of God but to submit ourselves to the plan He has for us.

Perseverance in Prayer

Paul not only encourages believers to pray but to do so with consistency and perseverance. In fact, to the Ephesian believers, he said to “pray at all times” and to the Thessalonians to “pray without ceasing.” It is such a blessing that God does not get tired of talking to us!

While Paul was not expecting us to constantly vocalize our prayers, but rather have a God-consciousness in every experience in life! While this doesn’t negate the necessity of persistent and earnest in prayer, it is intended that we have a constant connection with Him.

As the earthly church “were continually devoting themselves to prayer” we too must see the value of emphasizing prayer both personally and corporately! God is available!

It begins with Christ!

If you don’t know Christ as your savior, it all begins with the first step. Committing your life to serve Him is the greatest decision you will make in your life! For more information on serving the Lord: CLICK HERE!
