Life is full of twists and turns. Often, we face challenges, changes, and decisions to be made. While we often consider life to be all about us, there is a bigger reality. One that requires us to have a divine perspective of life. Acknowledging that our Creator has a plan for our lives in His story!
Maturing in faith begins with seeing things from God’s perspective!
Scripture
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, Ephesians 4:1–2 (ESV)
Paul was imprisoned in Rome, yet he called himself a “prisoner for the Lord.” Why? He had the perspective of seeing everything he faced in life and how it affected Christ. It wasn’t centered on his own personal wants or desires; rather, he saw how circumstances affected God.
It is so easy to wonder how things in life affect us. We often think of our own pain, money, possessions, or inconvenience. This is because of our earthly perspective of life instead of a heavenly one. We should think: What is God teaching me? How can I glorify God in this situation? As we mature in our faith, we begin to see things in light of a divine perspective.
David says “I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.” Psalm 16:8–9 (ESV) His awareness of God’s presence in his life, brought joy and security. Even when trouble came, he was firm in his heavenly perspective.
Paul knew that there was a bigger reason that he was a prisoner in Rome. It was in this circumstance that God would be glorified and Paul would be instrumental. He was not focused on how it would affect him. Instead, he could rejoice even in a prison!
Scripture
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28 (ESV)
